jburghlogoCongratulations to 2009 ROIer David Katz on his organization, J'Burgh, winning one of the top spots in a "Great Jewish Nonprofits" competition sponsored by GreatNonprofits, Jewish Funders Network, JTA, Natan, Slingshot Fund, Jewish Jumpstart, Upstart Bay Area, JGooders.com, and Guidestar. J'Burgh, which creates programming for graduate students and young Jewish adults in Pittsburgh, won "Best of Northeast" in the "small budget" category (for nonprofits with budgets under $250,000).

J'Burgh received 141 reviews, including this one, from "Max":

I was reluctant to join J'burgh because of a bad overall experience at my collegiate Hillel. From the first time I met David Katz I was convinced, and have felt accepted and wanted at every event. The variety of activites and people involved is part of what makes the group great. David genuinely cares about the program as well as the members, and is an excellent leader for the group. Pretty much, J'Burgh flat-out rocks.

Jewish nonprofits focused on young adult and teen engagement got the highest ratings in this inaugural list. The ratings were submitted by people in the Jewish community who have volunteered, donated, or been served by the nonprofits. There are over 180 nonprofits on the list, which can be viewed online.
