LessIn addition to rocking out, hard as a Jewish Chick Rocker, I also do a fair bit of consulting and facilitation work (as you Arts & Culture 2009 ROIers know). I am working on an AVI CHAI funded project called Chazon with an incredible educator named Shalom Orzach. The focus of Chazon is to help North American Jewish summer camp directors investigate how Israel is taught at their camps. The Why, What, When and How of Israel education - or in other words, what's the story that they want to tell in their camps to their participants, whose perspective is that story coming from, and how is it delivered. And one of the best educational methods to open up conversations about Israel - to examine story, perspective, history, narrative - is through, you guessed it, ARTS AND CULTURE!!!!

As we were planning one of Chazon's seminars in Israel, I mentioned to Shalom that we absolutely need to utilize the talents of this innovative, entrepreneurial organization called Omanoot. ROI's own talented Edoe Cohen hooked us up with his co-founder Lindsay Criterman who built us a few hours of investigation, inquiry and discussion on the history of Tel Aviv - through a cultural lens!

AriellaDadonMaskTeaserIn a partnership with Unmasked Comics co-directors Chari Pere and Inbal Freund-Novick, ROI is spotlighting a few members of our community like you've never seen them before: as cartoon characters.

The "ROIers: Unmasked" comics series features four Jewish innovators from the ROI network representing Europe, the USA, Latin America and Israel. A new comic will be released every several weeks leading up to this summer's ROI Summit in Israel in July. Together the four stories will create a visual record of the Jewish innovation work that ROI has been doing for the last five years.

The premiere comic in the series, "Taking Action: The Yvonne Feiger Story," features Vienna's Yvonne Feiger, a Jewish community activist and now the founder and director of Jewish Salons: Vienna. (Check out the panels about the ROI Summit to see if you recognize any additional ROIers serving as "extras" in the comics.)

Just in time for Yom Ha'atzmaut 2010, Antithesis ("The Zionist Rapper") drops his new video, "Proud to Be a Zionist" which in turn drops names of old-school Zionists like AD Gordon, Theodor Herzl and Jabotinsky. The video was produced by Ziv Maor, who met Antithesis at last summer's ROI Summit.

The filming was grassroots-funded by Antithesis's fans. For lyrics, see Antithesis's site;read the "making-of" story here.
