Yaniv Rivlin is currently studying at Harvard Kennedy School. In this article, he explains that when he started his second degree there, he didn't plan on also being spokesperson for Israel. But, as it turns out, Yaniv's college experience is far from that of any other ordinary student. With events like One State Conference, Yaniv and his colleague, Yael, find themselves advocating for Israel but they aren't under any illusions; they don't expect to convince some of Israel's strong critics, to love Israel. They do, however, desperately want to present a second voice. Read more in the Maariv article below (published on 28 March 2012).

What’s delightful about receiving an ROI writing grant is that when the project is winding up to its closure and you are asked to send out a final report, in reality, you are right at the beginning of your journey. Soon, ROI readers (and similar creatures) will read your essay.

The whole concept of volunteer work among the numerous Jews from FSU living in Germany today seems to be a nonexistent. But only at first glance. During Limmud Day Berlin, we interviewed participants only to discover that volunteerism does exist as part of the post-Soviet Jewish experience in Germany – but it faces many challenges.

A few years ago, the ROI Community and LimmudLA teamed up to present "Friends of Innovation," a casual get-together for people to meet and network over drinks, and also to schmooze about Jewish life, culture, tradition and innovation (2010 video here).

Then in 2011, Jumpstart and the Jewish Federation of Greater Los Angeles joined ROI and LimmudLA as sponsors of the event, which by then was named "Cocktails for Innovators" (2011 video here).

But 2012 demanded something that was evocative of the warmth and feel of the original, but with a little bit of disruption to challenge the way we think about living and being Jewish in this richly innovative and creative time.

Regev Ben David  /      02/16/12
by Regev Ben David

While being very active in the area of Jewish renewal in Israel for several years now, I only heard the name Limmud for the first time during ROI summit 2011 – but there I heard it over and over and over.

So when LimmudNY approached and I was fortunate to obtain ROI’s Micro Grant to participate in my first Limmud, I tried to contribute back by volunteering in several positions (which definitely seems to be the great spirit of the conference) and by giving three workshops.

Everyone's name tag has a volunteer task on the back. "2:30 pm Help Desk." "Friday 6:15pm Table Captain."

It's all an honor system. Written as plainly as your name, you simply are a volunteer at Limmud and you're expected to give.
