An exhibition about the Holocaust has opened in Havana, Cuba, the country’s first, but so far it is attracting more foreign visitors than locals. Initiated by ORT Cuba National Director William Miller two years ago, “We Remember – The Holocaust and the Creation of a Living Community” combines text, photographs and video to enable the island’s resurgent Jewish community to better understand its roots and for the general public to learn about the nadir of modern civilization. Knowledge of the Holocaust is next to non-existent among Cuba’s non-Jewish population and the exhibition has yet to draw wide-scale attention locally.

The 2011 ROI Ibero-American Gathering took place in Argentina in November. It was an incredible 5-day jouney, shared by approximately 50 young Jewish leaders from 15 different Latin American countries.

The media, both Jewish and general, took an interest in this unique gathering of exceptional and committed young adults and news about it was featured online, in print and on the radio.

More than 50 passionate and committed Jewish leaders and activists from 15 different Ibero-American countries, gathered in Buenos Aires, Argentina, for the 2011 ROI Ibero-American Gathering. On the opening night, using colored markers, posters and candy, participants gave fellow participants a taste (also quite literally) of their homes.

Through a fusion and adaptations of different performance techniques such as musical theater, story theater and educational theater, El Toratrón® brings to life the characters and wisdom from the Torah, the Hebrew Bible, while inviting the audience to dive in the stories, Holy days and passages from the Sacred Book and its teachings.

Nico Riethmuller updates the Community from his home in Santiago de Chile.

In January, I decided to dedicate myself entirely to Jewish education and over the past few months I have been busy launching various groups and projects.

Last month, I started a study and discussion group for about 30 young Jews (between the ages of 20 and to 30-something). The group meets twice a month to discuss critical and relevant topics like international terrorism, religion, politics, etc. and to meet with a panel of selected speakers.
