More than 50 passionate and committed Jewish leaders and activists from 15 different Ibero-American countries, gathered in Buenos Aires, Argentina, for the 2011 ROI Ibero-American Gathering. On the opening night, using colored markers, posters and candy, participants gave fellow participants a taste (also quite literally) of their homes.

Based in Buenos Aires, Argentina, El Toratrón® is a Jewish educational theatre ensemble that presents a variety of innovative shows with Biblical and Jewish themes. Through a fusion and adaptations of different performance techniques such as musical theater, story theater and educational theater, El Toratrón® brings to life the characters and wisdom from the Torah, the Hebrew Bible, while inviting the audience to dive in the stories, Holy days and passages from the Sacred Book and its teachings.

Nico Riethmuller updates the Community from his home in Santiago de Chile.

In January, I decided to dedicate myself entirely to Jewish education and over the past few months I have been busy launching various groups and projects.

Last month, I started a study and discussion group for about 30 young Jews (between the ages of 20 and to 30-something). The group meets twice a month to discuss critical and relevant topics like international terrorism, religion, politics, etc. and to meet with a panel of selected speakers.

ROIer Evelyn Goldfinger takes to the stage with El Toratron, a Jewish Educational Theatre ensemble in Latin America. El Toratron is making several performances of its Chanukah show "A Prender La Luz" ("Let's turn on the lights") in different synagogues, JCCs, and at public celebrations. They have also performed at a Jewish home for children and for a Jewish home for the elderly together with a group of elementary school students.

Evelyn Goldfinger, the beautiful, poised and talented founder of El Toratron, a theater company (teatron, in Hebrew) that draws from the legacy of the Torah, was recently interviewed on television in Buenos Aires. In this clip, she tells about the origins of the theater company, her approach in developing plays to perform, and one moment that made it all worthwhile. (The clip is in Spanish, with English subtitles.)
