The Hackathon
By Nir Kouris. In March, 2012, with the help of an ROI Micro Grant, Nir arranged a "Hackathon" in Tel Aviv.
The Hackathon. This was a different kind of event, the event definitely made a huge impact on me as an entrepreneur and activist for Israel.
The Tel Aviv Hackathon had a very clear goal set in place before the event started – “make Israel go viral.”
Bringing very talented people from a large variety of leading startups all together for a much bigger cause. We had people come from all over the country from the hottest startups in Israel.
The event was very successful. We created more than 10 viral projects in 8 hours!
Now, the expectations are high as the participants demand another event and there is a great motivation for everyone to make new projects and promote Israel in a positive way worldwide.
For the first time people met not only to talk but also to work together and make an impact.
One of the main projects that emerged from the Hackathon aims to forge a connection between people living in countries of conflict. Peace Connector, uses Facebook interests and profiles as a means of bringing people together online, in ways which their countries cannot.

We are now working on making this movement global and helping Jewish communities connect and work together on viral projects for Israel.
This is the meaning of activism for me. Right now in my life I focus on two main goals: Action & Vision.
I now understand that this is what I bring to the table and that it is up to me and my friends to build a better tomorrow.
I would like to thank ROI for the support, inspiration and the mentoring as I grow my community and help Israel have a better future.
Now I am more committed in my path and roadmap in the Jewish world and Israel.
Stay tuned for the next project!
