Limud Buenos Aires - ROIniks "here, there and everywhere"
Categories: Jewish Education
Last Sunday the 5° Limud Buenos Aires took place and ROIniks where here, there and everywhere!
Ariela Lijavetzky (ROI Summit 2012) was the coordinator of the event. As the only profesional member, she centralized the work of all the volunteers, participated in the comittees´ meetings and brought new ideas for encouraging youth´s participation. Ariela believes it is really important to keep on holding these kind of activities where everybody meet, volunteer, teach and learn!
Early in the morning, Gabriel Weitz (ROI Summits 2006, 2007 and 2010) presented a session about "Zionism and the Enviroment: a Red, Green or Grey State?" showing the centrality of this issue since the early years of the Zionist movement and commenting on the dilemmas that Israel face nowadays: should the Negev be maintained as it is or modified for agricultural use? Does a clean river have priority over a thriving - yet polluting - industry? How can Israel use its leadership in the clean water technology? Is sustainability a collective Jewish goal?
Later on, Uriel Aiskovich (ROI Summits 2007 and 2010) presented a session about one of his most admired Jews: Woody Allen. Called "Midnight in Paris, Judaism and travels through time", it analyzed scenes from the 2011 movie and its relations with Talmudic sources. The topic was that 2000 years ago before the film, Rabbinical ideas where travelling through time to discuss each other through the pages of the Talmud.
At the afternoon, Evelyn Goldfinger (ROI Summit 2009 and 2010) showcased El Toratrón's "Shalom, Shabbat!" piece for the entire family to enjoy. It was a fun, intergenerational musical and educational moment. At a later youth session, Evelyn co-presented the Tzedek musical theater ensemble Laté of Hillel Argentina, a solidarity group that she has been directing and coordinating for 10 amazing years. It was a great opportunity to share the program with more people and to get more young adults involved.
