Using and Promoting Micro Grants
Categories: Micro Grants, North America

Speakers Bureau Micro Grant
I have been blown away by the concept of microgranting and how small money can make a big impact. Both from ROI as well as a federation taskforce I sit on in NYC at the Jewish Federation. I had the idea that this microgranting philosophy could be beneficial to other federations and communities. But most people have different definitions of microgrants. So I proposed a session for the Jewish Federations of North America's General Assembly - and guess what? They selected me. The only way I could've gotten there and gotten on that panel is through the ROI Micro Grant program. As a result, not only did I get the opportunity to design a session with colleagues I respect, but got this topic on the agenda of the Jewish communal conversation. For me personally, I was able to make connections to the movers and shakers to promote and secure contacts that could be helpful to me in the future.
Professional Development Micro Grant
I originally applied for money to do a promotional video of the work I did this summer at Camp Louise - a Jewish Chick Rock band camp-within-a-camp but after consulting with No'a Gorlin, I decided to instead apply for a professional development opportunity grant. This Micro Grant enabled me to meet with Liz Nord, an incredible documentarian and storyteller, and have her help me determine what is the story I want to tell and how to focus my message taking into account my audience. This was an invaluable experience that will help me grow my projects in the future.
In addition, Liz also crafted a beautiful 4-minute promotional video - see below! You tell me, who this is for, what's the story it told you and is the message focused?
