David Wolkin is the Executive Director of Limmud NY, having stepped into the role after years as a dedicated volunteer. Over the past ten years, he has worked across the denominational spectrum in a diverse range of settings, specializing in engaging learners of all ages through informal and experiential Jewish education. David received an M.A. in Jewish education from the Jewish Theological Seminary in 2007 and has been a company member of Storahtelling since 2006. Outside of his Jewish work, he is an occasional contributor to ComicsAlliance, an AOL/Huffpo Media site, and has been known to perform comedic monologues at various New York City venues. David lives in Brooklyn with his very patient girlfriend, his cats RoboCop and Phineas, and way too many comic books.
Limmud NY is a grassroots community of volunteers that collaborates year-round to create powerful learning experiences for Jews of all ages and backgrounds. The highlight of Limmud NY's work is an annual festival of Jewish learning attended by hundreds of people from the New York-area and around the world. As Executive Director, David is focused on long-range strategic planning for the organization, expanding programmatic impact, strengthening volunteer engagement and building new partnerships. Under David's guidance, Limmud NY will soon be launching a Community of Educators program in partnership with the Limmuds in Los Angeles, Colorado and Atlanta. As Limmud continues to grow as an international movement, David hopes to increase Limmud NY's ability to serve as a central hub for diverse Jewish learning experiences.
