Hamutal Gillo grew up in New York City and Tel Aviv. After completing her military service in the border police forces, she began working as a tour guide and led many Jewish American teen trips and Taglit-Birthright Israel groups. As a tour guide she led her participants through a personal and communal soul-searching endeavor to discover their Jewish identity and connection to Israel, and helped create sustainable relationships between Israelis and Americans. In the last four years, Hamutal has been active in the Israeli environmental movement, volunteering in Green Course, Israel's main environmental student movement. During the past year Hamutal has worked for Life and Environment, the Union of Environmental NGOs as an event coordinator. Hamutal produced professional conferences and practical training sessions intended for the capacity building of environmental NGOs. Hamutal is proud to be a part of a growing movement of organizations promoting public health and nature preservation. This past year Hamutal shifted to working as a research assistant in the Van Leer Institute now focusing on legislation and policy plannning to promote women's rights in Israel.
