Julia Itin was born in 1985 in Odessa and grew up in Westphalia, Germany. She holds a double M.A. in Jewish studies and pedagogy from Heidelberg University and is a research fellow in the Oriental Department of the University Halle-Wittenberg where she is completing her PhD on Jewish memory of the Black Death. She is also program director of Limmud Germany.
